Today’s advanced dental techniques make getting a root canal more comfortable than ever. This comprehensive treatment helps you avoid unnecessary tooth extractions, preserving your natural smile for years.
Do I Need a Root Canal?
Endodontic therapy is the next line of defense when it comes to protecting badly damaged or infected teeth. Dr. Vipul Patel may recommend getting a root canal if you’ve experienced:
- Severe decay that reaches the nerve of your tooth
- A dental abscess
- Chronic, painful toothaches
- Cracked/fractured teeth
To be sure that a root canal is the best treatment, Dr. Patel will need to take an X-ray of your tooth and examine the areas around it. Your X-ray will likely show internal changes in the nerve chamber, or a visible infection at the tip of the root.
Let us know if you’re experiencing any pain when chewing, or if your tooth is hypersensitive to hot foods.
What Happens During Root Canal Treatment?
Root canals are restorations that extend into the nerve chamber of your tooth. Unlike fillings or crowns that cover and protect, a root canal protects the tooth from the inside out.
After numbing your tooth, Dr. Vipul Patel will access the nerve chamber and remove the dying or infected pulp tissues. Next, we clean out and seal off the hollow chamber to prevent reinfection. Once your root canal is over, you’ll want to have a crown made to protect the weaker, non-vital enamel. At Warwick Valley Dental we’re proud to offer same-day CEREC crowns, saving you an extra trip to the office!
Since your tooth will be thoroughly numbed, getting a root canal is just as comfortable as having any other type of routine dental work. Plus, Warwick Valley Dentistry offers in-house sedation options to keep you as relaxed as possible!
